From research to field application
At Kolacı, a technology does not count as a product until it has been measured in the field. This page describes the work that has reached the field so far, together with its measurement methods and limitations.
Scope of the field programme
756 ha · 96 application areas
Total stated in company field records for sunflower, maize and soybean applications; control-group sowing under Çukurova University supervision
8 crop production categories
Sunflower, grain maize, silage maize, soybean, wheat, cotton, peanut and sugar beet (company field records)
5 institutions
Çukurova University (supervision, DNA analysis), Seyhan Chamber of Agriculture (observation letters 2013–2014), the Eastern Mediterranean and Trakya Agricultural Research Institutes and the Sugar Institute (2014 trial fields)
2006–2008
Installation in Adana merging advertising panels with the City Security Management System (the founding team's company Y-Vizyon Ltd.)
Case 1 — XSense field programme, Çukurova, 2013–2014
- Need
- Drought, imported inputs and falling yields.
- When
- 2013–2014; farmers' fields affiliated with the Adana Seyhan Chamber of Agriculture.
- Role
- Kolacı: technology developer and implementer. Çukurova University: supervision and DNA analysis. Chamber of Agriculture: observation and reporting.
- Measure
- Control-group yield comparison (kg/da); single-plant measurements; ISSR DNA marker analysis.
- Result
- Crop-level results on the XSense page; +10% to +41% in the Chamber report, inconclusive in wheat. No genetic difference in DNA analysis.
- Limits
- The results in the Chamber report belong to the 2014 season and the fields stated; company records cover two seasons (2013, 2014) but do not give the distribution of area totals by season. Single-plant measurements are not averages; results are not a guarantee for new applications.
- Source
- Chamber report 14 Nov 2014; ÇÜ DNA reports 1 Nov 2013; company field document.

Case 2 — Adana city-security and smart megalight installation, 2006–2008
For the advertiser: vehicle and pedestrian counts, make breakdown and the derived audience profile could be seen in real time during a campaign. For public authorities: colour, speed and violation data (speed, red light, emergency lane, lane violation) were relayed to the centre automatically; for example, a vehicle passing at 85 km/h on a 60 km/h road could be identified by its plate and reported with a violation photo. Fixed megalights had an automatic poster-tensioning system.
- Need
- Advertising media that could not be measured, and city-security/traffic-enforcement needs that required separate infrastructures.
- When
- Contract 22 Dec 2006; final acceptance 18 Dec 2007; Adana.
- Role
- Y-Vizyon Ltd. (the same founding team's company): production, installation and operation of the electronic systems; contract with the main contractor (Kamera Reklam A.Ş. – News Outdoor A.Ş.); within the Adana Metropolitan Municipality street-furniture tender.
- Measure
- Daily/weekly/monthly vehicle and pedestrian counts, make distribution; live viewing from municipal units. Example: week of 4–10 Sep 2008, 18,850 vehicles, 1,959 pedestrians (management-panel record).
- Result
- According to the main contractor's letter of 2 Jun 2008, the work reached final acceptance on 18 Dec 2007; how the system met specification clauses 5, 6 and 40–54 is set out clause by clause in Y-Vizyon's technical report. Audience measurement for advertisers and plate/speed/violation data for public authorities were served from one infrastructure.
- Limits
- The documents belong to the 2006–2008 period; the work-completion is in the name of Y-Vizyon Ltd. The results are specific to that installation and its specification.
- Source
- Y-Vizyon technical compliance report; main contractor letter 2 Jun 2008; 2008 management-panel screenshot.

Case 3 — Measurable outdoor media, Kavaklıdere, Ankara, 2002–2006
- Need
- The audience of outdoor advertising could not be measured.
- When
- 2002–2006; wall of the Kavaklıdere Tennis Club, Ankara.
- Role
- Founding team, under the XLight brand: panel system and measurement software.
- Measure
- Vehicle and pedestrian counts; make breakdown. Company document states 371,960 vehicles and 517,300 pedestrians per week (date not stated).
- Result
- A measurable medium for advertisers; the counting technology became the basis of the Adana installation.
- Limits
- Historical work (2002–2006); the traffic figures and measurement method in the brochure are not published as current performance because they have not been verified; the brands in the photographs are the campaigns of the period.
- Source
- XLight presentation file; Haber7, 8 Mar 2006.

Archive — Turning images into information
Two examples from the image-processing laboratory studies our founding team carried out in the XLight period. The idea was simple: a camera only produces images; what counts, recognises and distinguishes is software. These studies show the method behind the vehicle and pedestrian counting in the Ankara (2002–2006) and Adana (2006–2007) installations. No detection boxes or results have been added to the images afterwards; they are shown at the resolution of the source file.

Archive videos — Image-processing and AI studies
The image-analysis software we developed for border surveillance, detection of removed objects (Theft Module) and unattended-package alarms was sold, together with its source code, to a multinational camera manufacturer and delivered as embedded systems for integration into cameras. The manufacturer's name and brand cannot be disclosed under the terms of the contract. The videos in this section are archive demonstration recordings of the work; they are not real operational footage, and no marks were added to the images afterwards.
According to our company's technical description, the team worked in this period on border surveillance with its own artificial-neural-network approach and on recognising the scene a moving (PTZ) camera re-aims at. The recordings are demonstrations of this work; the details of the method cannot be read from the recordings.
Border surveillance — recording 1
Detection of moving targets in night/thermal terrain footage; left window source ("Orig"), right window processed. Duration 1:21. Date of work not documented.
Border surveillance — recording 2
Same set-up, longer recording (4:24): the scene is re-evaluated as the camera angle changes. Company statement: scene recognition by a re-aiming camera was a subject of work in this period.
Object removal — recording 1
When an object is removed from an office scene, the vacated area is flagged. Duration 0:26. There is no person identification; the system only flags the change in the scene.
Object removal — recording 2
The position of an object taken from a shelf is flagged, second scene. Duration 0:30.
Unattended object
A bag left in the scene and separated from its owner is flagged after a set time. Duration 0:31. This is the reverse of object removal: an added object is tracked.
