Adana — integrated city systems
The system installed in Adana in 2006–2007 combined advertising panels with cameras, image analysis and a control centre in the same infrastructure. Audience measurement for advertisers and traffic and plate data for the public were provided from the same installation. This page describes the installation as a system of components working together; roles and dates follow their documents.

Project card
For the advertiser: vehicle and pedestrian counts, make breakdown and the derived audience profile could be seen in real time during a campaign. For public authorities: colour, speed and violation data (speed, red light, emergency lane, lane violation) were relayed to the centre automatically; for example, a vehicle passing at 85 km/h on a 60 km/h road could be identified by its plate and reported with a violation photo. Fixed megalights had an automatic poster-tensioning system.
- Need
- Advertising media that could not be measured, and city-security/traffic-enforcement needs that required separate infrastructures.
- When
- Contract 22 Dec 2006; final acceptance 18 Dec 2007; Adana.
- Role
- Y-Vizyon Ltd. (the same founding team's company): production, installation and operation of the electronic systems; contract with the main contractor (Kamera Reklam A.Ş. – News Outdoor A.Ş.); within the Adana Metropolitan Municipality street-furniture tender.
- Application
- 10 smart megalights; 5 IP cameras per unit (3 fixed: plate, vehicle, pedestrian; 1 PTZ; 1 ad monitoring); image-processing vehicle and pedestrian counting; IBM x3650 recording server (36 cameras, 10-day retention), RAID 5, 70 TB archive; fibre backbone; web-based management panel; 14,000+ LED ticker. Production, installation and operation of the electronic systems undertaken by Y-Vizyon.
- Measure
- Daily/weekly/monthly vehicle and pedestrian counts, make distribution; live viewing from municipal units. Example: week of 4–10 Sep 2008, 18,850 vehicles, 1,959 pedestrians (management-panel record).
- Result
- According to the main contractor's letter of 2 Jun 2008, the work reached final acceptance on 18 Dec 2007; how the system met specification clauses 5, 6 and 40–54 is set out clause by clause in Y-Vizyon's technical report. Audience measurement for advertisers and plate/speed/violation data for public authorities were served from one infrastructure.
- Limits
- The documents belong to the 2006–2008 period; the work-completion is in the name of Y-Vizyon Ltd. The results are specific to that installation and its specification.

- Y-Vizyon technical compliance report; main contractor letter 2 Jun 2008; 2008 management-panel screenshot.
Components working together
The diagram shows the information flow defined in the source documents: cameras on the units produce images; image analysis counts vehicles and pedestrians and reads plates; recording and management servers collect in the control centre; advertisers and municipal units monitor via a web interface. Automated decision-making or intervention is not part of this scope.

Making the application visible
The weekly vehicle and pedestrian counts and brand distribution in the management panel show an approach aimed not only at displaying the message but also at making the application traceable. No advertising conversion rate or current performance is derived from these screens; the example is the record for the week of 4–10 September 2008.
In the press
The clipping reports that the project of camera-based junction monitoring, real-time intervention in signalling and driver information via electronic panels went into operation in Adana; it quotes the Secretary General of the Metropolitan Municipality and states that the system's establishment was financed from advertising revenue. This is a note on the financing approach based on the article; it does not prove the project's cost, contract or that it came at zero cost to the public. The newspaper is Hürriyet according to company information; the publication date is not visible on the clipping and awaits confirmation.

"Someone is watching Adana"
News of the day: five cameras each at the bus terminal, vegetable market, officers' club, governorate, Kasım Gülek, ASKİ and İller Bankası junctions; 24-hour monitoring; signalling intervention from the control room and driver information via electronic panels.
Taking software to product
The image-analysis work of the same period — border surveillance, detection of removed objects and unattended-package alarms — was sold, together with its source code, to a multinational camera manufacturer and delivered as embedded systems. Details and archive recordings are on the Field page.

An academic reference to vehicle and pedestrian counting
Vehicle and pedestrian counting is the core of the image-processing work that runs from the XLight period to the Adana installation. A paper in the SUMMITS'24 proceedings (Akbulut and Kırbaş, 2024; printed p. 55) mentions İbrahim Kolacı's "Vehicle and Pedestrian Parallel Counting System"; 2024 is the event year.
